Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia (infection of the lungs) in children younger than one year of age.

SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV are all contagious viruses that cause respiratory illnesses. The three viruses are spread from person to person through droplets and present similar symptoms, including cough, fever, and congestion.
